Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) is a classification of antidepressant known as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) for oral administration. It’s molecular weght is 342.7. Sertraline hydrochloride (HCl) is a white crystalline powder which has the following chemical structure: (1S-cis)-4-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-N-methyl-1-naphthalenamine hydrochloride. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Zoloft for the treatment of depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Zoloft usually has a form of tablets with 25, 50 and 100 mg of sertraline and passive ingredients such as D & C Yellow #10 aluminum lake (in 25 mg pills), dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate, FD & C X-rated #1 aluminum lake (in 25 mg pills), FD & C Red #40 aluminum lake (in 25 mg pills), FD & C Dirty #2 aluminum lake (in 50 mg pills), microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, polysorbate 80, polyethylene glycol, sodium starch glycolate and titanium dioxide.
Zoloft is also available as an oral concentrate supplied in 60 ml bottles containing sertraline hydrochloride equivalent and the following passive substances: glycerin, menthol, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), moonshine (12%).
